Todd Snyder: City Gym

In the super chic, super trendy Nolita neighborhood, Todd Snyder opened the doors on his first ever pop-up shop. The store, dubbed “City Gym” features the stellar designer’s collaboration with Champion Sportswear, creating a vibe that effortlessly blends together old-school cool with contemporary style.

The inspiration for the store came when Snyder, recently departed from helming J. Crew’s menswear collections, was looking to open a pop-up that would feature his Champion collaboration while also showing off garments from his signature line. Telling The New York Times, “I wanted it to be like a sporting goods store, but done in a modern way. And I want people to discover. It’s not just about me and my brand, it’s about my filter and how I view things.” And the Elizabeth Street storefront does just that.

Highlighting the athletic-themed pieces, Snyder even took care take to outfit the space with baseball mitts, Shinola bikes, Billykirk leather bags, shoes from PF Flyers and medicine balls to tie together the sports-inspired vibe of the locale. Black-and-white photos featuring sportsmen of yore, rusted lockers, and reclaimed industrial furniture from ABC Carpet & Home aren’t just for show – they’re for sale, too.

Open from Monday to Saturday from 11 to 7 and on Sundays from 12 to 6, “City Gym” is just the first stop for Snyder’s inevitable New York City expansion.
