Bar Centro, Los Angeles
Hidden deep beyond the shadow of the Beverley Center, the brand new bougie lounge Bar Centro has quickly become a staple among Beverly Hills nightlife. The Philippe Starck-designed Bazaar restaurant at the SLS Hotel is exuberantly over-the-top and full of whimsy, mixing decades, tastes, styles and designs together to a very dramatic effect.
Mojitos poured into glasses chock full of cotton candy and gin and tonics poured delicately your choice of two fresh artisanal tonics offer just a taste of how far the drink menu reaches – and just how creative things are at Bar Centro. The dinner menu hints at a typical Spanish taverna-style menu with modern touches, like the squid with homemade aioli, mozzarella-tomato pipettes with micro basil, mixed charcuterie plates, Spanish sheep cheeses served with quince jam, almonds and toast points, salty wrinkled potatoes served with a mojo verde sauce and much, much more.
And while the menu may feature nuggets of conventional Spanish fare, contemporary bites, like caviars, sashimi, foie gras served in a cotton candy casing and crème fraiche in a crepe help keep the menu exciting, novel and, most of all, inventive.
