The Very Best Private Islands

A weeklong getaway and a stay at the Marriott isn’t exactly what some would define as relaxation. Others would counter that even a stay at a private beach villa isn’t nearly remote or secluded enough to offer the respite from the go-go-go of the modern, buzzing world. And so it’s for those who need silence and miles and miles of person-free sand, surf, and sun that the Telegraph has put together the world’s very best private islands. Offering the most in exclusivity and calm, these idyllic backdrops provide guests a private oasis to relax, reflect, and reset.

The Telegraph’s list kicks off with Richard Branson’s Necker Island, hosting just 30 guests a night for upwards of $7,000. The list also includes Czech billionaire Jiri Smejc’s Velaa Private Island, dubbed as “the most luxurious resort in the Maldives” for its shaded tennis court, golf course, sea bobs, and one-of-a-kind Clarins Spa. Floating just miles away from Ibiza, Spain’s Island Tagomago has been hailed as “the best private island for hire in the Balearics” and boasts just one villa with five double suites, a swimming pool, and tons of Ibiza-fueled amenities.

Melody Key Island off the coast of Key West in Florida also made the list, coming in at less than $2,000 per night for a minimum six-night stay. The North Island in Seychelles has long been known as one of the world’s most incredible honeymoon destinations for high-profile couples, but the 11 eco-friendly, chic open-plan villas are just as beloved by layman and laywoman alike.
