Milan Fashion Week 2016
The third leg of the international month of fashion began on Wednesday, September 21 in Milan, Italy. The Milan Fashion Week debuted with women’s shows from Gucci, Blugirl, Wunderkind, Fausto Puglisi (who, according to the New York Times, ditched “the runway in favor of a stage” to show off his latest collection in collaboration with Armando Punzo, the artistic director of Compagnia della Fortezza”), Roberto Cavalli, and Philipp Plein (who the NYT dubbed “the avant-garde German designer with a leaning toward cutout leathers and a penchant for blowing tens of millions of dollars on show-stopping extravaganzas.” Adding, “Ever wanted to see Courtney Love singing on a moving walkway surrounded by robots rocking out on guitars? Mr. Plein is your man. Chris Brown, rapping from a monster truck with fire coming from its wheels? This will be the show for you”). Day two of the show will be marked by appearances by MaxMara, Fendi, Emilio Pucci, Prada, and Moschino, with shows by Girgio Armani, Giamba, Tod’s, Versace, Alberto Zambelli, Salvatore Ferragamo, Piccione.Piccione, Assegnato, and Lucio Vanotti takince place through September 26.
Following Philipp Plein’s show, a performance from American pop star Fergie officially ended day one of the fashion-week festivities and bled late into the night. Upcoming highlights for day two include American model Gigi Hadid, who’s the face of MaxMara’s accessories campaign, hosting a Corso Vittorio Emanuele cocktail party, and buzz is everywhere for Fendi’s upcoming show.
