Yankee Stadium
Between 1923 and 2008, the original Yankee Stadium was home to 26 World Championships and some of the most magical moments in the history of baseball. The decision to replace a stadium that many considered a cathedral was met with a great deal of skepticism from traditionalists and critics alike. However, when the new Yankee Stadium opened in 2009, all such concerns were silenced as quickly as the Bronx Bombers eliminate their competitors. The new home is a grand structure, enormous in scope and modernity, but also designed to carefully preserve much of the character present in the old ballpark. From a similar exterior, nearly identical field dimensions, and Monument Park which pays homage to past legends; the Yankees successfully created a new cathedral to baseball while honoring their remarkable history. And clearly it worked out, as the Yankees won their record 27th World Championship in the inaugural season.
