Typing Room

Taking up residency where the former Viajante space was within the Bethnal Green’s Town Hall Hotel, the brand new Typing Room eatery is the product chef-restaurateur Jason Aterton and 27-year-old world-class chef Lee Westcott.

Serving up modern European fare on the “tricky” side of the London tracks, the Typing Room has eaters interested – and not just in the food. The space, once used for mayoral correspondence, takes its name from the room’s original function at the old town hall and though the space may be antiquated, the stellar menu at the East End establishment is anything but dated.

As the Telegraph reports, the menu is small but not insecure. It opens with trendy “snacks” and even goes so far as to recommend that guests sample the tasting menu.

Westcott is careful to dub his offerings as “modern British”, but it’s impossible to ignore the European influences. Among guest favorites are the raw mackerel with passion fruit, burnt cucumber and radish, yeasted cauliflower with raisins, capers and mint, a suckling pork belly, peach, mustard and rainbow chard and pigeon smoked in pine with salt baked celeriac lovage and hazelnut.
