Vintage Motorcycle Hill Climbing

A must view for anyone who has spent time around a motorcycle, is a collection of vintage photographs featured in this post by Jared Erickson. Some dating back to 1920, these images were taken at some of the earliest motorcycle hill climbing contests, a stiff test of man’s mastery over the machine. As it is still done today, riders take on steep slopes with speed and daring. The photos offer a great perspective on what these riders were facing, as you can note spectators in the background struggling just to keep their own footing on the hill. Even the non-rider will appreciate these, if for nothing more than the magnificent quality of the images and the historical moments of diversion which they preserve.
