‘The Residence’ on Etihad Airways

If sitting in first class wasn’t enough to satisfy your high-flying delights, now Etihad Airways, the Abu Dhabi-based airline, just recently celebrated the launch of The Residence by Etihad, a three-room hotel-style suite available for bookings as soon as the latest Airbus A380 flights are in the air.

Touted by the airline as “the most luxurious living space in the air,” The Residence fleet will feature a double bedroom and bathroom, complete with double beds clothed in Egyptian cotton sheets, a complete shower; its own living room with a Poltrona Frau leather sofa, dining table, entertainment system and drinks cabinet and other facilities typically confined to private jets, including a butler trained at the Savoy Butler Academy in London, an on-board chef and unique design elements specific to each plane. The entire upper deck of the A380 planes will feature premium cabins, mini-bars, a vanity unit, swiveling TV monitor, access to a fully equipped shower room, a 63-inch-high sliding door for privacy and a reclining armchair with full-length ottoman that also converts to an 80-inch-long flat bad.

The A380s will make their mark in December of 2014, debuting on Etihad’s London to Abu Dhabi service – and if the buzz surrounding the announcement of the first-class fleet is any indication of what’s to come, first-class cabin travel is about to become the new method of air transportation.
