American Football Conference Leaders

Last year the American Conference of the NFL was dominated by none other than Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Remaining leaders included the Steelers, Jaguars, and the Chiefs. Over in the National Football Conference, leaders in the 2018 playoffs included the Super Bowl winning Eagles, Vikings, Rams, and Saints. Last season, the Jaguars were the biggest underdogs in the league. After supporting a 3-13 record in 2017, Jacksonville went on to have a 10-6 record the following year. Quarterback Blake Bortles and running back Leonard Fournette are poised for more growth and improvement in 2018, be sure to keep an eye out for the Jaguars come this season. The Kansas City Chiefs also held a 10-6 record under Alex Smith, including big victories against New England and Philadelphia. This year, look for the Oakland Raiders to take Kansas City’s spot as the winner of the West Division. The Steelers are well expected to secure the front position in the North Division. In the South, this is expected to be a battle between the Jaguars and the Houston Texans, especially with a healthy returning Deshaun Watson. With the winner of the American Conference moving on to the Super Bowl, this year our prediction is that the AFC Championship game will include the Patriots and the Steelers, with the Steelers winning the conference. National Football Conference Leaders

Focusing the attention over to the National Conference, last year’s division leaders included the Eagles, Vikings, Rams, and Saints. With a healthy Carson Wentz in at quarterback for Philadelphia, the Eagles will be even tougher to beat. After losing to Atlanta last year in the Wildcard, the Rams have had a very beneficial offseason and are expected to bring high hopes to LA. New Orleans and their explosive offence are always poised for a championship-calibre season, but the question remains whether or not Drew Brees can carry his team through the playoffs. The Minnesota Vikings were very impressive last year, after turning an 8-8 season in 2016 to 13-3 in 2017. This shows how big of an impact the offseason can play out for some NFL teams. Our big National Conference sleeper is the Atlanta Falcons. After securing a wild card spot as the 6th seed in the National Conference, the Falcons went on to beat the Los Angeles Chargers, but fall short against the Philadelphia Eagles. With more talent on offence after drafting Calvin Ridley out of Alabama, Atlanta could very well be still alive during the National Conference championship. Our projected division winners in the NFC include the Eagles, Rams, Packers, and Falcons. In the NFC championship, we boldly expect the Falcons to face the Los Angeles Rams with the Falcons moving on to Super Bowl LII.

Offseason Update

After having 5 quarterbacks drafted in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, this offseason had a lot of activity. Some of the most influential offseason moves include Miami wide receiver, Jarvis Landry, to join Heisman trophy winner Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns. Hopefully, this addition to the Browns can bring Cleveland back after a 0-16 season in 2017. The Los Angeles Rams had the most productive offseason, after trading for wide receiver Brandon Cooks (New England), defensive end Ndamukong Suh (Miami), and cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman (Buffalo), LA is ahead of expectations. From the draft, key takeaways include running back Saquon Barkley to New York second overall with quarterback Sam Darnold to the New York Jets third overall. With many divisions of both leagues in the NFL being very balanced in terms of overall talent, this draft will have a key impact on the future of the NFL. Going on from our predicted Super Bowl matchup between Pittsburgh and Atlanta, our bold prediction for 2018 has the Atlanta Falcons winning their first Super Bowl behind a great season under head coach Dan Quinn.
