Scribner’s Catskill Lodge

Following an extensive reservation deep in the heart of the Catskills, Scribner’s Catskill Lodge has emerged as one of the most exciting bespoke mountain lodges to debut in Hunter, New York. Taking into consideration the landscape around it, Scribner’s website posits the lodge as a basecamp for weekend adventurers. The lodge, which boasts 38 guest rooms and suites with a locally-inspired restaurant, outdoor and indoor events spaces, more than 20 acres of land, ample shared fireplaces, and lofted bedrooms, is rooted in ample outdoor history. According to its site, the lodge now sits where the Hunter Mountain Prospect House once stood. Prospect House, a grand hotel that could sleep hundreds, had a reputation as a popular summer social center, but over time lost appeal among its clientele.

Rooms at Scribner’s are clean, contemporary, and “slightly off-beat,” with dark maple floors, vintage rugs, custom-built furniture, and modern amenities. Most rooms boast large windows and private decks overlooking the Catskill Mountains, with some featuring private fireplaces and lofted sleeping spaces. Bathrooms are equipped with terracotta tiles, a Waterworks rain showerhead, and natural bathroom products. Bookings can be made for the Cabin Queen, Mountain King, Mountain Double, Cabin Double, Cabin Queen With Loft, Bungalow Double, Bungalow King, Summit Double Queen, Summit King With Loft, Catskill Suite, and the Scribner Suite.

Prospect Restaurant and Bar calls Scribner’s home, serving up a “playful twist on local cuisine inspired by the rich and diverse offerings of the Hudson Valley.” Serving breakfast, brunch, aprês ski, drinks, and dinner, Chef Buenconsejo uses the land to inspire his menus, bringing his love of nature indoors with foraged mushrooms, root vegetables, locally farmed meats, and innovative fermentation to highlight the eclectic, delicious offerings of the area.

Though the lodge won’t confirm or deny its connection the famed publisher who was behind some of the most noteworthy American authors — Fitzgerald, Hemingway, and Vonnegut, to name a few — Scribner’s remains a sight to be seen and enjoyed year round.
