Pharrell Earns CFDA Icon Award

On June 1st, the CFDA Fashion Awards will honor the “Happy” singer with the Icon Award. Though the star was recently sued for copyright infringement – his collaboration with Robin Thicke on “Blurred Lines” used elements from Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up” — this year’s award show, in partnership with Swarovski, will honor the icon, musician and innovator at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall.

Bestowed on an individual whose style has impacted pop culture internationally, WWD reports Pharrell joins the ranks of Lady Gaga, Iman, Kate Moss, Nicole Kidman, Rihanna, and Johnny Depp.

Diane von Furstenberg, president of the CFDA, told WWD, “If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell, not just for his looks and sense of style but for his kindness and openness. I cannot imagine anyone not seduced by him.” The singer, songwriter, and record producer has also cofounded the Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream Footwear; he also has a collaborative partnership with Adidas.
