New York’s Little Slice of Paris

Le District is the all-new Financial District neighborhood on the rise. The brainchild of Peter Poulakakos and Paul Lamas, Le District has, in every sense of the world, created a culinary mecca out of the rubble left behind in the wake of the 2001 terrorist attacks. Created to as a means to “deliver delicious French-inspired fare in an environment where service and quality are paramount,” Le District boasts four “districts” – Market, Café, Garden, and Restaurant – with the latter featuring three brand new eateries – Le Bar, Beaubourg, and L’Appart – and dozens of cafes, brasseries, and to-go stations – Boucherie, Coffee, Pâtisserie, Boulangerie, Delices du Chef, Grain du Café, Le Comptoir, Fleuriste, Poissonnerie, Charcuterie, Fromagerie, and a Rôtisserie.

The entire neighborhood sits adjacent to North Cove Harbor and drew its inspiration from markets like La Grand Epicerie as well as centers in Vietnam and Morocco. Poulakakos and Lamas then recruited Jordi Valles as the culinary director behind the entire project.

In an interview with Everett Potter, Poulakakos said, “I’ve always been thrilled with French cuisine. It’s the backbone of precision,” adding that he hopes Le District will be “there for everyone. People who live and work here love it.”
