London Fashion Week 2016

The 2016 iteration of London Fashion Week will kick off on Friday, September 16 and last through Tuesday, September 20. The European leg of the four-week long series (London follows New York’s Fashion Week and preludes to Milan’s Fashion Week) will begin with a showing from Teatum Jones on Friday and will also feature numerous presentations throughout the day. Showing this year in London are many of the usual suspects — J.W.Anderson, Christopher Kane, Mulberry, Belstaff, Temperley London, Sophia Webster, and Burberry — but this years’s designer roster also includes a few up-and-comers worth mentioning: Molly Goddard, who will debut her first solo runway show; Mimi Wade, A.V. Robertson, Caitlin Price, and Alice Archer, among others.

Though London Fashion Week is notoriously an invite-only industry event for fashion press and buyers, London FashionWeek.co.uk will stream a number of shows live this year thanks to a collaborative partnership with Ocean Outdoor. Adding to the changes of this year’s show is the fact that Topshop will debut its new Runway-to-retail program, which will allow interested shoppers to buy looks straight off the runway. Debuting at London’s history Old Spitalfields Market, a pop-up shop will open immediately after the show finishes and will also be available online at Topshop.com, according to the Telegraph [link: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/fashion/london-fashion-week/when-is-london-fashion-week-what-are-the-biggest-shows-and-new-n/].

Burberry will follow in Topshop’s footsteps and also make their collection available for purchase. In an interview with the Telegraph, the fashion house’s Christopher Bailey said, “The changes we are making will allow us to build a closer connection between the experience that we create with our runway shows and the moment when people can physically explore the collections for themselves. Our shows have been evolving to close this gap for some time. From live-streaming, to ordering straight from the runway, to live social media campaigns, this is the latest step in a creative process that will continue to evolve.” Burberry’s line will hit stores immediately after their London debut.
