Inside Ralph Lauren’s Regal Car Collection

A generous two-story, 48,000-square-foot building in Westchester County, New York is home to Ralph Lauren’s romantic car collection. Seated on white platforms, the space is entirely empty save for Lauren’s exquisite cars, displayed like works of art in no-touching-please gallery.

But the cars are far from sedentary. The 74-year-old legendary fashion designer says that the cars are for driving, and the garage where he keeps them – named D.A.D Garage in honor of his three children: David, Andrew, and Dylan – just a loading pen until they’re ready for their next ride.

“I have a lot of great cars,” Lauren says, “and I bought them all to drive. I didn’t buy them to keep them in a garage and to shine them up. I love cars for their inspiration, for the fun of driving, and for the beauty of collecting something special and rare.”

His stunning collection includes a 1950 Jaguar XK120, 1961 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, 1929 4 ½-Liter Birkin Blower Bentley, 1930 Mercedes-Benz SSK Count Trossi, a ’62 Ferrari 250 GTO, and the 1983 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Mille Miglia.
