Inside David Lauren’s Montauk

The Montauk of 2016 is much much different than the one David Lauren grew up in. Summering at the Lauren’s family for years, Lauren spoke to RL Mag about the differences between the incredibly hot summer destination and the alcove he escaped to in his youth. “I remember driving around as a kid to the fishing village and being so impressed as the fishermen brought their fish in on their great old boats,” he told the magazine.

Dishing on his favorite spots, Lauren says that now more than ever he’s learned to “hide away and find private nooks that make us feel very comfortable.” Top on his list is Joni’s Kitchen, founded by Joan Brosnan, an NYC expat who floods her Montauk hot-spot with tons of personality, charm, and color. Lauren says of Brosnan, “She’s super-smart, beautiful, natural, and inspiring in everything she has to say. Her food is organic and homey, and people love waiting in line because the payoff is great.” Lauren adds Navy Yard as one of the East End’s go-to lunch and dinner spots, thanks, in huge part, to its commitment to serving local seafood and generous portions. Lauren adds that the reggae on Sunday evenings creates an “amazing atmosphere.”
