Alicia Keys’ ‘We Are Here’ Movement

Pregnant with her second child, the singer and songstress Alicia Keys launched the all-encompassing We Are Here foundation, aiming to touch upon and improve every facet of the human condition. Her hope is that We Are Here will begin a dialogue between cultures that’s inclusive of everything from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to the prison reform system to gun violence and a universal healthcare system that heals western and eastern citizens with the same tenacity.

The program stands as Keys’ attempt to fight injustice together, turning away from the “What can I do to help society?” model and turning toward a more encouraging cultural attitude that asks, “What can we do, together, to help society?”

As an activist, a philanthropist and a mother, Keys believes that we can all do our part to create safer conditions for all of the world’s children. She writes, “Our souls were brought together so that we can love each other sister, brother. We are here. We are here for all of us. That’s why we are here.”
