2014’s Cheltenham Festival Spotlight

Part of the National Hunt Racing Meeting, the Cheltenham Festival is an annual showdown boasting the best British- and Irish-trained horses where the winner is lauded with the Festival Gold Cup Glory title. Taking place yearly in March, guests bet on the breed they think will likely win, which makes the betting pool second in monetary earnings only to the Grand National race. More than hundreds of millions of pounds are bet during the four-day event, beginning March 11th and concluding on the 14th.

The four-day Festival is most known by the “Cheltenham roar” which refers to the uproar that the crowds generate as the starter raises the tape for the first race of the festival. And since 2005, the Festival has celebrated an extra day of racing finals, with the gold cup competition happening on the final Friday of the event.
